AlterationsEdit

The route was altered in November 1995 on the completion of the Black Country Spine Road. It was swallowed up into the A41 at Great Bridge and re-emerged Template:Convert/mi north at Wednesbury before continuing the remainder of the route unchanged. The "old" section of the A461 became part of the B4517 (New Road) and the A4037 (Leabrook Road), while a section of it (Toll End Road) became unclassified, along with the section of Leabrook Road which became a no-through road to motor vehicles (and was renamed Leabrook Road North) after a diversion was opened. In October 1999 the route underwent another alteration, this time around Dudley. It was diverted along the new southern bypass, which opened on 15 October, 12 years after it was first planned. The old section of A461 became an extension of the A4101 (Stourbridge Road and Queen's Cross), while the Trindle Road section was incorporated into the B4171 and King Street became unclassified; a section of it was converted into a bus lane in 2000 while one section of the dual carriageway was incorporated into Flood Street (an unclassified road).
