Custom House for ExCeL station is in the Custom House area by the Royal Docks in Newham, east London. It is served by the Docklands Light Railway (DLR), and is in Travelcard Zone 3. It takes its name from the old Custom House, which formerly stood nearby, and the Exhibition Centre it serves.
History[]
The station opened in 1855, around the Eastern Counties and Thames Junction Railway, which eventually became merged into the North London Line. The DLR station opened on 28 March 1994 as part of the extension to Beckton. The North London Line platforms were closed on 9 December 2006 after the closure of the Stratford to North Woolwich section of the line and DLR became the only serving service.
Design[]
It is linked to the main entrance of the ExCeL Exhibition Centre by an overhead walkway, which also connects to the Royal Victoria Dock Bridge, spanning the Royal Victoria Dock to its southern side.
Location[]
It is the principal public transport access to the ExCeL Exhibition Centre and its adjacent complex of hotels, restaurants and bars.
London Bus routes 147, 241, 325, 678 and night route N551 stop here.
Plans[]
Crossrail's Abbey Wood branch will call at Custom House. It will reuse the trackbed and station site of the former North London Line, but all the buildings will be new.[5]
