HistoryEdit

This route began in 1949, running between Hounslow Bus Garage and Hanworth (Monday to Friday and Saturday an) or Hammersmith Brook Green Hotel (Saturday pm and Sundays).

In 1951 the route between Richmond and Hammersmith was withdrawn, being replaced by route 71.

On 12 October 1955 it was extended from Hounslow to London Airport Central (now Heathrow Airport) to replace the withdrawn route 232.

In 1958 the route between Twickenham and Richmond was withdrawn; and Hounslow (AV) gained the whole allocation of the 111.

In 1960 the route between London Airport Central and Cranford was withdrawn. It was extended to Kingston (Saturday Shopping hours only) in 1964.

Route 111 was converted to single deck operation in 1971. SMS-type single deckers were replaced by the longer Leyland Nationals in 1976, and in 1978 the 111 was extended to Kingston and all times.

In 1981, route 111 was extended from Cranford to Heathrow Airport Central.

In 1982, Metrobuses were bought to convert the 111 back to double deck and in 2000 low-floor Volvo B7TL 10m / Alexander ALX400 (VA) were bought to convert it to low-floor and 5 brand new Dennis Trident 2/Alexander ALX400 (TAs) where bought to help increase the frequency.

On 1 December 2007, route 111 was converted into a 24-hour service.
