London Buses route 177 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. The service is currently contracted to Selkent.

History[]

Route 177 came about as part of the replacement of London's trams in 1952. The route started out as Abbey Wood - Elephant and Castle then continuing via Westminster Bridge to terminate at the Embankment then returning via Blackfriars Bridge to Elephant and Castle and vice versa. There was hardly any change with the service except for the gradual withdrawal of the Embankment loop working until eventually the service was withdrawn between New Cross and Elephant and Castle and instead extended to Peckham. Also the service was extended from Abbey Wood to Thamesmead which is how the route operates today.
