Transport for London •
This route began in 1947, running from Golders Green Station to Northwood Garage, via Brent Green, Kingsury, Kent, Harrow, North Harrow and Pinner. Operating from Hendon (AE), using RT-type double deckers.
Route 183 swapped with route 83 in the Hendon area. The 183 via The Quadrant and The Bell and the 83 via Hendon Central.
Hendon was closed in 1987 and the allocation was transferred to Metroline's Harrow Weald garage and the DMS's returned and some single decks entered service. The 183 was extended from Northwood Station to Harrow Weald for Garage journeys.
Withdrawn between Pinner and Northwood on November 1987.
But this didn't work out too well because the 183 is a very busy route and so 15 brand new low-floor Volvo B7TL 10.6m / Plaxton President double deckers were bought in to convert the route into double-deck.
