The 993 route is a bus route in the West Midlands, United Kingdom. It is the second highest numbered bus route and the 2nd in 3 Premier Birmingham Routes in the West Midlands area.

History[]

  • January 2008 - Re-launch of the 993 Premier service with Enviro 400's introduced onto the service. Widthdrawal of route 993A.
  • 2004 - Wright Gemini's are introduced onto the service as an attempt to relaunch the route from the old route number 996. The 996 had lots of bad press, to make the press happy, routes 996 and 113 were re-numbered 993 and 196 (The 196 since only having 4 journeys each way per day from National Express West Midlands, now also operated by Central Connect.).

Centro/ NXWM Partnership[]

Since the 17th January 2008 the 993 was brought into a small group of services under the 'Premier' brand; Other services include the 934 and 997. Due to the status of the service this involved upgrading the type of vehicles used on route from Wright Gemini's to Enviro 400's and introducing additional extras such as leather seating and air conditioning. The service also experienced a weekday timetable increase from every 30 to 20 minutes.

As part of this agreement between National Express West Midlands and Centro, the service must run to its timetable and any late running will mean passengers may request a refund, depending on measures within National Express's control.
