The 222 route is a bus route in the West Midlands County, United Kingdom.

History[]

It used to be Merry Hill Minibuses' and Travel Merry Hill’S routes 270, 741 and 817 between Merry Hill Centre and Dudley, introduced in 1999, and then continued to Bilston numbered 270 on a different bus. On Sunday’s there was a route 222A which was extended to Priory Estate. The 222A was withdrawn approximately 1 year later in 2000. The 222 has been having frequency changes continually, going from every 30 minutes to every 15 to every 12 to every 15 to every 8 to every 10 minutes.

Present[]

The 222 route was unaffected during the Dudley Network Review in 2008, unlike most other services. The only change to this service was the addition of early morning journeys in the weekday mornings with enhanced Sunday timetable.[1]

Showcase[]

National Express West Midlands runs this route as a showcase route with branded Volvo B6 buses along with National Express West Midlands route 243.This was one of few routes that has had Volvo B6’s for its entire route life.

It is widely said that the 222 would be getting some Enviro 300’s or Scaina Ominlink buses as Pensnett is getting a fleet upgrade in late 2008/early 2009. This has been confirmed by staff of the bus company, National Express West Midlands.

It is also widely said that route 222 would be getting a shopping hour extension to Tesco on Burnt Tree Island but this has not been confirmed by National Express West Midlands.
