The route links the two busy towns of Walsall and Wolverhampton via the areas of Darlaston, Bentley, Lodge Farm & Willenhall (compared to service 529 which is more direct). Other methods of transport between the two towns are by using London Midland rail service. This option is quicker.
Despite being regarded as the 'long' link between the two towns it is only 13 minutes longer out of itself and the 529.
The service is booked to use Volvo B6LEs with Wright Crusader bodywork, however in the last month it has been at least 80% operated by Volvo B10Ls and National Express West Midlands 3 remaining Leyland Lynxes often appear on the route.
On a Sunday the services operates a 60 minute frequency.
Several of the first journeys of the day are shortened workings, some terminating on the Lodge Farm estate and one at Darlaston town. On a Sunday despite the first bus leaving Walsall at 1005, the first bus that goes the full length to Wolverhampton does not arrive in the city until 1300.
The route used to be operated by Wolverhampton garage.
From July 20th, the 333 is being rerouted back to its original route via Bentley Road South & Bentley Road North. Its timetable is also being changed. Additonally on this date, a new service is being introduced by National Express West Midlands between Walsall and Darlaston following the same route as the 9, 333, 334 and 339.
